When the Right People Come Together

When we first tossed around the idea of DevFest Annapolis, I knew one thing: pulling it off would require more than just a good plan. We had about a month and a half to build a website, gather speakers, secure sponsors and partners, coordinate logistics, manage marketing, and get people excited to attend. That timeline demanded more than a solid foundation; it demanded a bedrock of exceptional people willing to stand with you on the front lines, even on the darkest days. For me, I knew exactly who that was.
Mark Farmer of Signum Technologies: Mark is the guy waving his arms, asking, “Well, wait a minute, can we and should we just because we can?” Analytical, organized, and quietly observant, many underestimate him. But he sees everything, notices the tiniest cracks, and that awareness is priceless.
Dennis Chen is remarkably similar. Quietly watching from the sidelines, he spots the potholes before anyone else does. If there were a way to see into the future, Dennis possesses it. Even when everything seems to be falling apart, he finds a way to make it work seamlessly, because he saw it coming.
Michael Carico keeps the team on track. He’s the one who says, “I hate to be the A-hole again, but… time, time, time.” His ability to maintain momentum and organization saved us more than once.
Patrick Rockhill is the ultimate detail-oriented force. From the start, I knew he would vet every aspect, ensuring nothing slipped through the cracks. His commitment to perfection is exactly what an event like DevFest needs.
Sameer was our outreach powerhouse. While Patrick spreads the word meticulously, Sameer has the charisma and connections to bring attendees in. I wasn’t sure he would join us, but the moment he said yes, I knew our audience numbers were secure.
Brady brings energy and innovation. He’s the spark, the person generating ideas and enthusiasm that keep everyone going for hours. He is also the guy you keep on the sidelines for your eleventh hour. When everyone is drained and energy is low, he will finish that mile and then some.
Mary (C) was indispensable for branding and design. With her professionalism and creative vision, she brought our event to life in a way no one else could. Anyone in the design world will tell you it's just about impossible to pull off what she did for this event.
Satya delivered exactly as I expected - structured, organized, and dependable. When he reached out to join, it was a relief knowing we were in capable hands. He brought volunteers and numbers, just like in DC.

While each of these amazing people had overlapping roles, carefully organized teams, and complex communication lines, one thing was clear: without them, DevFest Annapolis would never have happened.
So how did I know this was my dream team?- They were the right people together for the task
I’ve known Dennis for years; he’s my best friend and someone who constantly pushes me to grow. Brady and Dennis have run companies together on and off for years, and their dynamic energy always pushes boundaries. I met Michael about a year ago while collaborating on a project; our weekly growth talks and brainstorming sessions made me confident in his leadership. Mark and I connected through the same project and have built a trusted partnership over time. Mary, with her unmatched design expertise, was the only choice for our branding. I worked with Satya on the DC DevFest and knew he delivers consistently. I met Sameer at a PR reception for a debate, and I saw his gift for deep, meaningful connections, which makes him the perfect outreach leader. Patrick has been attending Google Developer Group meetups for a while, and I have been watching him, when he said he wanted to condribute, I was over the moon. His attention to detail ensures nothing is overlooked and every moment is perfect.

Together, these incredible people weren’t just a team, they were the backbone of DevFest Annapolis. They brought skill, passion, and unwavering commitment. They turned an ambitious idea into a remarkable reality.
